I want to thank student columnist Chris Morsilli for extolling
the virtues of Edline at gilroyhighschool.com. Edline is our new
on-line student-parent-teacher communications tool. We believe, as
he does, the education of our students as well as communication
with our parents will be enhanced by the use of Edline.

I want to thank student columnist Chris Morsilli for extolling the virtues of Edline at gilroyhighschool.com. Edline is our new on-line student-parent-teacher communications tool. We believe, as he does, the education of our students as well as communication with our parents will be enhanced by the use of Edline.
Currently, 25 percent of our teachers are using Edline and about 9 percent of our parents. The teachers need to be trained on Edline in order to post assignments and two different software applications in order to post grades.
The first round of training (mostly activating accounts for teachers) was completed in December. The second is with “grade machine” software that enables the teacher to post reports periodically on Edline. This training is ongoing and will take a lot more time.
Many of our teachers have been doing grades with pencil and paper and need to be trained from scratch. Some of our teachers use a different electronic grade program and have to switch over, which takes training.
In February we will be picking up steam. Starting Feb. 7, students and parents who have activated their accounts will be able to access daily attendance. All students will receive their activation codes on the 10th and 11th and we will have another parent activation night on Thursday, Feb. 9 in room D-1 from 6 to 8pm.
It is an evolving process. We don’t anticipate 100 percent implementation this year, but we are moving forward. Edline is an initial investment that in time pays dividends for everyone.
