Most golfers can relate to always having those two or three bad holes each round that take your score and send it through the roof.

Often times when you examine the root of the problem is that you have hit that one errant shot that got you into trouble. However, it was your hero attitude of trying to get back to the green or close to the pin from that trouble that got you in deeper.

Take your lumps and move on. When faced with a difficult shot out of trouble just simply get it back into the fairway. If this means that you are simply hitting the ball sideways and not gaining any distance so be it. Resist the temptation to weave a ball through the trees or over some branches to advance the ball further along. Odds are against you and you will most likely find yourself in deeper trouble as the strokes now start to pile up.

If you are faced with a difficult chip shot over a sand trap and you lack the confindence to hit that shot consistently, aim away from it and take your chances with a 20-30 foot putt. Even if you three-putt it is better than burying your ball in the bunker and taking four or five more shots to get it in the hole.

Similarly, when faced with a tight pin placement that requires a tricky lob shot to get close to the pin. Lob it at or over the pin to ensure that you get on the green and not short. By increasing your margin for error on these shots you increase your chances of keeping your score down to a reasonable level.
