A man in a gray-hooded sweatshirt committed a strong-armed robbery about 10 a.m. Monday at Metro Self Storage, 8900 Murray Ave. The man slapped the clerk and pushed her away after entering the business. He removed $2,879.20 in cash and $1,700 in checks from drawers behind the counter and then removed the video surveillance tape from the recorder. He then ran out of the storage facility in an unknown direction.

The identity of the suspect is unknown. He is described as a Hispanic man about 5-feet, 4-inches tall and about 120 pounds. He is slender and has a mustache.

No, you can’t take the store

Darren Shane Baker, 40, and Enrique Mendez, 29, both of Gilroy, were arrested at 12:29 p.m. Friday after they were allegedly seen loading an aluminum nursery rack from Orchard Supply Hardware, 303 E. 10th St., into a vehicle. Baker and Mendez told police that they had permission from the hardware store to retrieve the rack, but Orchard Supply management said they do not give away products and they wanted to prosecute both men.

Three out-of-towners and a pound of weed

Police arrested three Watsonville-area residents on alleged drug violations at Church Street and Welburn Avenue after one of them allegedly ran a stop sign.

Watsonville resident Jessica Pacheco, 18, was allegedly found to be carrying 437.18 grams – or 0.96 pounds – of marijuana, an electronic gram scale and $78. She was arrested for possession of marijuana for sale. Mario Ballesteros Jr., 24, of Watsonville, was arrested for possession of marijuana, driving while unlicensed, and on warrants for driving with suspended privileges, driving with a suspended license and using a cell phone while driving. Marco Lopez, 20, of Freedom, was arrested for possession of marijuana. Lopez was cited and released, while the other two were taken into custody.

Antonio Trejo, 26, of San Jose, was arrested at 4:20 a.m. Sunday for vandalism after he allegedly broke $3,000 worth of items inside the emergency room of St. Louise Regional Hospital, 9460 No Name Uno, after he was asked to leave.

Trejo allegedly knocked over a computer tower, a computer monitor and various medical supplies.
