Dear Editor,

There are two points in your “post City Council election” editorial that I would like to address, the first of which is sidewalks. First, enact a policy, such as 50-50 or 60-40 (depending on the cause of the problem, i.e., who planted the tree), with an annually updated cap so everyone is treated the same. This is necessary since favoritism towards those in high standing is unfortunately typical in Gilroy. Second, identify the “hot” areas and score them objectively with a numeric variable based on rise height, vertical area, etc. and set up a telephone and email hotline for people to notify the city. Third, fix the areas with the greatest score (risk) first and bill the owner his share.

I sent this suggestion in to the City Council while serving as a volunteer for the Sidewalk Committee, but in typical “Mayor Al Pinheiro leadership style,” I received no response.

I would also like to express my disagreement with your statement: “Bob Dillon’s decision to … forego his ballot statement … likely cost him the election.” Ballot statements are useful on the county level, particularly when electing the robed fascists to judge over us. However, on the city level, anyone who follows the news or watches that worthless public channel (or knows someone affected by Council or commission arrogance) has a far better grasp of candidates than will ever be provided by some little blurb in a ballot pamphlet.

Dillon’s arrogance and crass attitude cost him the election. Showing all due contempt, I am the first to belittle my opponents, especially those who abuse their “authority” (real or imagined, usually the latter and always self-granted).
