PALO ALTO – The Gilroy Power 9-and-Under girls’ soccer club took second place in the Stanford 4v4 Tournament held in Palo Alto Sunday, May 3.

Put together by coach Gene Nanez, who has tutored the players throughout their young careers, the Power dominated tourney pool play by outscoring opponents 18-4 in three games to advance to the top tier bracket.

The Power then won two more games before falling in the final 3-2 to the Palo Alto Blue Thunder, who are ranked in the top 25 in the Northern California Premiere League for their age group, according to Nanez.

All six players on the Power – Kayla Nanez, Grace Denham, Brianna Martin, Carson Gilroy, Riley Tomassetti and Aurea Martin – scored in the tourney, with Kayla Nanez leading the club with 14 goals.

The Power would like to thank Scott McNamera for sponsoring the club.
