CHS field hockey wins second straight
The Gilroy High girls varsity volleyball team founf the winning formula on Tuesday night.
In search of their first victory of the season, the Mustangs dispatched visiting Alvarez in three sets.
CHS tennis
On one hand, Christopher High’s tennis match with Alvarez went as planned – the Cougars won the No. 2, 3 and 4 singles matches.
Emily Collins (No. 2 singles), Shelby O’Hara (No. 3) and Nubia Cruz (No. 4) had the CHS victories.
On the other, CHS dropped all three doubles matches.
The victory hinged on Emily Barham at No. 1-singles in a matchup that went into a third-set tiebreaker.
After losing the first set, Barham switched up her game plan to win Set 2. However, Nia Casad had the final say in the tiebreaker, leaving the Cougars on the short end of a 4-3 loss on Tuesday in Salinas.
CHS field hockey
Another strong defensive effort and timely scoring produced 2-0 CHS field hockey triumph over Stevenson on Tuesday.
Abby Smith tallied 39 seconds into the game to make it 1-0. Kyle Robinson scored the second goal a little less than four minutes into the second half.
“Overall, the girls played a good game,” CHS coach Lia Peterson said. “Their use of the field continues to improve as their tenacity and confidence grows.
Peterson pointed out the defensive play of Jasmine Estrada and Gianna Brown in helping the Cougars’ defense keep Stevenson out of the offensive zone. Goalie Erika Velasquez had her second consecutive shut out.
CHS is now 4-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
