San Benito blanks Gilroy
Gilroy was down four starters and without substitutions heading into Wednesday’s contest with San Benito, but it managed to keep things close.
The Balers did, however, beat the Mustangs 2-0 in Hollister. The loss drops Gilroy to 2-6 on the season, 1-1 in league.
The defensive line — made up of Monica Ruelas, Jackie Gomez, Cassidy Lawrence and Jackie Andrade — held off San Benito’s offense for most of the game.Â
“Senior and goalie Alejandra Aceves made some phenomenal stops to keep Gilroy in the game,” Gilroy coach Mario Gomez said via email.Â
The Mustangs will continue their roadtrip with a 5:45 p.m. game Friday at Salinas.Â
