Gilroy is being well represented at the Monterey Bay League Girls Tennis Finals.
Â
Christopher’s Emily Barham and Adena Chen as well as Gilroy High’s doubles team of Yesenia Mendez and Sinead Jernigan have advanced to the second day of play at the finals after picking up wins in the first round at Salinas High Monday.Â
Â
Christopher also sent two of its doubles teams — Liz Levan and Tiffany Roberts, Kaitlyn Lombardo and Jade Bardrick — but neither were able to advance to the final round.Â
Â
Gilroy’s Jessica Martin was able to pick up a win in the first round of play Monday, but lost the second round leaving her unable to advance to play today. It was the same story for its doubles team of Caitlin Filice-Hollar and Nicole Holder who also won first round, but lost in second. Mustangs’ No. 1 Amiti Munshi also played, but lost in the first round.Â
Â
Barham, Chen and the team of Mendez and Jernigan will all play at noon today at Chamisel in Salinas. Success here will advance them to Central Coast Section play.Â

Mustangs win in OT
Â
Gilroy’s Emily Boykin continues to shine.

Â
Prospect drew first blood, scoring in the 48th minute but it wouldn’t hold the lead for long. Gilroy answered just two minutes later with a short corner goal from senior Emma Leach assisted by Lilybeth Mendoza.Â

The Mustangs (11-2-2 overall, 8-2-2 in league) will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis for their second to last contest of the regular season.
