Gilroy Mustangs

The Christopher girls tennis team was one win away from beating Monte Vista Christian and it all came down to the No. 3 doubles match.
The Cougars duo of Minna Wu and Nikki Chen faced strong opposition in the first set, falling 6-0 to the Mustangs. Christopher jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second, but were unable to hold off MVC as it rallied back for a 6-4 win. The Cougars dominated in singles play, but fell 4-3 on the road Tuesday.
Jade Bardick and Tiffany Roberts, Christopher’s No. 2 and 3 singles respectively, won in straight sets. Bardick topped MVC’s Katie Riordan 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) and Roberts won 6-3, 6-2 over Larissa Tao.
Two of the four singles matches went into tiebreakers, including the hard fought No. 1 match-up. Adena Chen dropped the first set, 5-7, to MVC’s Grace Tao, but took the second 6-3. Unfortunately for the Cougars, Chen lost the tiebreaker by a close 10-8 margin.
No. 4 singles player Liz Levan also took her MVC counterpart to a tiebreaker. She dropped the first set 3-6, but won the second 7-6 (7-3) and the tiebreaker 10-4.
Maila Campos and Kelly Nantais, the No. 1 doubles team, won 6-3 over MVC in Set 1. The second set was a different story as they lost 3-6 to force a tiebreaker which MVC won 11-9.
The No. 2 doubles team of Sydney Tran and Annemarie Hayes kept their matches closes, but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-4.
Christopher will be back on the court at 4 p.m. Thursday to host Notre Dame.
