Gilroy Mustangs

Katrina Carter earned a foul in the final minutes of Gilroy’s game with Presentation and that was exactly the situation her team wanted.
The Mustangs were locked in a 2-2 tie with the Panthers at the time of the foul. Carter scored the game winner, helping her team to a 3-2 win over Presentation to end the first half of the season on a high note.
“You want KC (Carter) to have the ball on a penalty like that,” Gilroy coach Adam Gemar said. “She’s so good and she put it in the back of the net.”
Morgan Rogers got her team on the board in the first half to keep things even with Presentation, 1-1, at halftime. Carter scored for Gilroy after the break.
The Mustangs (13-1-3 overall, 5-1-1 in league) will take on powerhouse St. Francis at 3:30 p.m. Thursday on the road. The two teams ended in a 1-1 tie in their first meeting this season on Sept. 23.
GIRLS GOLF
Mustangs fall to Salinas in windy match
The Gilroy girls golf team had to battle more than Salinas Tuesday, it had to take on the high winds, too.
The Mustangs got off to a rough start, carding a double or worse on the first few holes, but found their stride midround. But despite the turnaround, Gilroy fell 239-322 to the visiting Salinas at Gavilan Golf Course.
Lizette Alcantar led Gilroy with a 47, including a par on Hole 5. Nicole Dan finished with a 51. Dan had two holes—4 and 8—where she was putting for par, but finished with bogeys on both. Alessandra Esposito rounded out scoring with a 62 which includes hitting for par on Hole 8.
Salinas’ Madison Chapman was the match medalist, scoring a 40. Cowboy teammates Katie Hyland and Joann Lee both carded a 46.
Gilroy has just two regular season matches left. The team will host Robert Louis Stevenson at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
