FIELD HOCKEY
Gilroy blanks Leland

The Gilroy field hockey team topped Leland 3-0 at home Wednesday, keeping the ball rolling on its stellar season.

Lilybeth Mendoza scored the game winner for the Mustangs, racking up three points in the game as she contributed to all three goals.

The Mustangs, who were coming off their first loss of the season last week, jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off a corner shot from Katrina Carter which was assisted by Emma Leach.

Leach picked up her second assist of the game, passing from the corner to Emily Boylin to put Gilroy ahead 2-0.

“We’re anxious for the second half of our season to see how we’ve improved, how we match up with teams that we’ve met before and just play more hockey,” Mustangs coach Adam Gemar said.

Gilroy will play at Archbishop Mitty at 6 p.m. Friday.
