Gilroy Mustangs

The Christopher and Gilroy tennis teams met for a crosstown clash, but only one could come out on top.
It was the Cougars who were victorious, beating the Mustangs 5-2 Tuesday at Gilroy High. All the CHS singles players won their matches as well as the team’s No.3 doubles team.
Christopher’s Adena Chen topped Amiti Munshi 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 match. Gilroy’s No. 2 Jessica Martin fell to Liz Levan 7-6, 6-3, while Jade Bardrick defeated Yesenia Mendez 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match. Tiffany Roberts got the ‘W’ in the No. 4 match, beating Sinead Jernigen 6-1, 6-2.
Gilroy’s No. 1 and 2 doubles teams picked up a pair of wins for the Mustangs. No. 1 team Caitlin Hollar and Nicole Holder won 6-2, 6-3 over Kelly Nantais and Renata Vasconcelos. The Mustangs’ No. 2 of Carissa Jackson and Victoria Rodriguez topped Claudia Espino and Sara Blawski 6-4, 6-2. Christopher’s No. 3 team of Annemarie Hayes and Minna Wu won their match 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 over Sofia Magana and Mya Esquivel. 
Christopher will be back on the court at 4 p.m. Thursday to host Monte Vista Christian. 
VOLLEYBALL
Christopher swept by Salinas
The Christopher volleyball team was swept 3-0 by the visiting Salinas Tuesday.
The Cougars fell 19-25, 18-25, 13-25 to drop to 1-2 in the Monterey Bay Pacific League. 
Olivia Tabron led the Cougars with nine kills in the game. Cheyanne Dela Merced picked up 15 assists and Michelle Toves and Emily Buchner each had nine digs a piece. 
The Cougars will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Seaside. 
MVC downs Mustangs
Gilroy was swept 21-25,12-25, 17-25 by Monte Vista Christian Tuesday at home. 
The loss dropped the Mustangs to a 1-5 overall record, 0-2 in the Monterey Bay Pacific League. 
Sarah Weiby led the Mustangs with eight kills in the match, while Alexis Conley added five. McKenna Morley and Jenna Clonts each had three blocks for Gilroy. 
The JV squad also lost, 7-25, 11-25 to its MVC counterpart. 
Fatima Ortega had three kills and two blocks for Gilroy. Evelyn Clonts also contributed two blocks for the Mustangs. 

Gilroy will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to host Monterey.
 
GIRLS WATER POLO
 
Gilroy falls to Stevenson
 
The Gilroy girls water polo team lost 12-4 to Stevenson on the road Tuesday. 
 
The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-6 on the season. Stats from this game were not immediately available. 
 
The Mustangs will play at 5 p.m. today against Everett Alvarez at home.
