FIELD HOCKEY
Cougars stay perfect in league
The Christopher field hockey team topped Carmel 5-2 Tuesday at home to maintain a perfect 4-0 league record (5-2 overall).
Erin Mank led the Cougars with two goals in the game, while Sherelle Butler, Melanie Tanaka and Jordan Evanger each had one a piece.
The JV team also won its game, topping Carmel’s JV squad 5-0. Nikki Villanueva had three goals in the match for the Cougars. Maddie Gullen and Clare McCarry each had one.

BOYS WATER POLO
Christopher falls to San Lorenzo Valley
The Christopher boys water polo team dropped another close contest Tuesday at San Lorenzo.
The Cougars lost 9-7 to SLV, falling to a 3-3 record in league, 6-4 overall.
Christopher was able to tie the game at 5-5 in the third period off a shot from Matt Higgenbotham, but SLV regained the lead 8-6 at the end of the period. Higgenbotham had six goals on 11 attempts in the game.Â
“Overall, our attempts on goal had better distribution but if you take away Matt’s shooting we hit only 1 for 12 which certainly does notÂ
get it done,” Cougars coach Paul Wells said.Â
The nail in the Cougars’ coffin came just 21 second before time expired, giving SLV the victory.Â
It was a different story for the JV squad, however.Â
The Cougars JV topped San Lorenzo Valley 11-3 Tuesday on the road. The team attacked hard a fast, going up 9-1 at the half.
The defense allowed only two goals in the final period, but the offense was able to counter with two of its own.Â
Max Deliz led the scoring with four goals in the game. Noah Vasquez had three and Jesse Calderon had two while playing stellar 2-meter defense.
“Balance and teamwork are the hallmarks of this team,” Wells said. “They share, they assist each other, they support each other and communicate  in the water.”Â
JV will host York at 6 p.m. Thursday. Varsity will be back in the water at 4 p.m. Tuesday in San Benito.Â

Goalie Richie Bermea had seven blocked shots in the cage.
The Mustangs will be back in the water at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Stevenson.
