GILROY—Jamie Boutee, Alexi Slattery and Agust Gomez were a crucial part of their teams all season long and on Wednesday, they were recognized for their talents.
Christopher’s Boutee, along with Gilroy’s Slattery and Gomez received Monterey Bay League-Gabilan Division’s First Team All-League honors. They were among eight local athletes acknowledged with postseason honors.
Boutee led the Cougars with seven goals this season. She helped her team to a 7-10-1 overall record—5-6-1 in league. The Christopher forward knocked in the first goal for her team in its 3-0 win over the Mustangs in the season finale on Feb. 20.
Slattery scored six goals for the Mustangs in her senior season and Gomez knocked in three. While their team got off to a rough start—it started the season 1-6—the duo helped right the ship for Gilroy. The Mustangs finished with an overall record of 6-11-2 and a 5-5-2 record in league play.
Natalie Fillippi of Christopher received Second Team All-League honors and was a crucial part of her team this season, especially at midfield.
Gilroy’s Samantha Gonzalez and Chelsey Robles also received Second Team All-League honors and were an offensive threat for the Mustangs all season. Both finished with four goals on the year.
Both Catalina Martin of Christopher and Jackie Gomez of Gilroy were named to the Sportsmanship team.
Salinas’ Cynthia Camacho received the league’s MVP honor; Suzzette Vanderberg of San Benito was named the MVP on defense and Alisal’s Priscilla Ruiz received the offensive MVP nod.
Goalie of the Year went to Notre Dame’s Ali Maestri and the top Midfielder honor went to Brenda Zamudio of Alisal. Marissa Viejas of San Benito and Natalie Rios of Alisal shared the top Newcomer accolade.
Finally, Notre Dame received the Elgie Bellizio Award.
