The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Santa Clara Unit and California State Parks will be conducting the “Western Zone Complex” prescribed burn in Henry Coe State Park today and Friday, pending favorable weather conditions and approval from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

CalFire and State Parks have been conducting prescribed burns for many years within Santa Clara County and areas throughout California. Prescribed burning has many benefits for public and natural resources, which include watershed improvement, enhanced wildlife habitat, and protection against large damaging wildland fires. All prescribed burn projects are conducted under specific weather and fuel conditions.

The burn project is located off the Blue Ridge Road near Mount Sizer and is about nine miles northeast of Morgan Hill. The smoke column will be visible from most of the San Francisco Bay Area counties and possibly from Interstate 5.
