astonished and delighted by the quality of the local library.
For a small town, we have something precious here.

As someone who has recently moved to Gilroy, I have been astonished and delighted by the quality of the local library.
For a small town, we have something precious here. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable, the collection is deep as well as interesting, and the 24-hour Internet access to all the libraries in Santa Clara County is amazing.
I have Internet access at home, but one can’t help but notice how many people – and how many different kinds of people – use the library connections. I’ll bet that the Internet is part of the reason the Gilroy library has seen an 80 percent increase in usage in the last 10 years. What a blessing this library is to so many people.
I sure hope they vote.
In my former place of residence, the library was not funded by a bond measure. What a sad place it was. What a sad place our Gilroy library will be if to few people get out to vote for Measure B. For just about a dollar a month, we can continue to have this great set of services. More importantly, we will be supporting an important democratizing institution in our community. Libraries allow a range of opinions to become available on a universe of topics. The poorest citizen and the newest immigrant have the same access to information, thanks to our libraries, that wealthy citizens can afford.
Without providing access to information, our democracy would become a place where those in power have quality information, and others are in the dark about forces affecting them.
Let’s not let that happen in our community. Our community needs the library strong, well stocked, and up-to-date. Our community needs to vote yes on Measure B.
