Many players finish with all their weight on their left side just like you are supposed to. However, it’s how you got that weight there that’s most important.
Remember your math teacher that didn’t care if you got the right answer but more importantly wanted to see the process that it took to achieve the answer. The golf swing and the finish in particular is a lot like that.
To make a good weight transfer to your left side during the downswing and at impact imagine that someone has a rope attached to the belt loop above your left hip. Once at the top of your backswing, that person tugs on that rope getting your hip to move laterally about 6-8 inches towards your target.
This now puts you into the proper weight distribution to hit the ball. This lateral leg movement also drops your hands right in the proper position to deliver the clubhead into the ball.
After your weight has transfered and you deliver the clubhead to the ball, then your hips clear out of the way. If you clear your hips before you slide laterally, you will miss hit a lot of shots because your club will take a path inside the ball and not right at it and through it.
So as you can see it’s not just about finishing with your hips cleared and your weight over your left side, but insuring that you slid your hips first to get there and didn’t just simply spin them.
Remember when all else fails take a lesson. You’ll be surprised how much we can help.
