It was the right time at the right place for Stephanie Radtke.

At Saturday’s CCS cross country championships, the Gilroy senior turned in the best time of her career (20:31) to finish 21st out of 113 girls in Division I.

“Stephanie looked great,” GHS head coach Cathy Silva said. “She was so happy when she was done. Without seeing, she knew it was her best time.

“That was fun to see.”

At the race, ran at Toro Park in Salinas, Radtke shaved 16 seconds off her time from TCALs, which took place two weeks ago at the same location.

“It was great way for Stephanie to finish her career,” Silva said. “For a senior to finish that way was just perfect.”

Meanwhile, a pair of juniors represented the Mustang boys’ team at CCS. Out of 129 competitors, Gilroy’s Arnulfo Velasquez (16:26) finished 15th, while Allan Chan (18:43) finished 94th.

Velasquez’s time, which matched his season-low, was made all the more impressive considering he ran the last mile or so with a stich in his side.

“We were very happy with all our kids,” Silva said. “And the best part is that they’ve already set up a running club for the offseason.

“So we’re already looking forward to next year.”
