He’s not a “hard core” gamer, but Randy O’Connor plans to change the face of computer game graphics and animation.
“People who you wouldn’t think would play them talk about playing computer games all day, for hours and hours,” O’Connor said. “It’s a chance to actually do something that could change society for the better. I really want to make it an art form.”
O’Connor already puts his artistic ability to work, creating animation shorts and designing illustrations in GHS’ computer graphics class since his sophomore year. He was both editor in chief and a contributor to the school’s art and literature magazine this year.
Northeastern University awarded O’Connor a full scholarship to study visual arts.
The honor student played in the Gilroy High jazz band and wind ensemble for three years and sang with the Chamber Choir, traveling this year to Germany and the Czech Republic during spring break.
A few times a week, O’Connor indulges in another artistic hobby: writing poetry. He has read some of his work during the school’s yearly talent shows.
