Dear Editor,

After reading Cynthia Walker’s response to reader and letter writer Goldman-Hall, I ask her the basic question, “What is real life for children who don’t attend high school be it private or public?”

Are homeschoolers taught the real life fiscal situations that private, profit-making, small colleges face in order to remain competitive? Will they learn that these colleges are implementing men’s football programs to non-scholarship players who are willing to pay $30,000 per year to never play competitively beyond college?

Will homeschoolers be taught the economics of attracting millions of dollars from private corporate contributors and alumni whose donations build new locker rooms (muggable and non-muggable), departmental buildings, sports complexes, libraries and provide broader degree offerings?

Where do they get their players? From those 14,847 “bizarre, unreal experience'” government-run, totalitarian, prison-like pubic high schools, and 1,439 private high schools throughout the country.

Are high schools reflective of real life? Apparently so, as communities are taking advantage of these capitalistic small college ventures incorporating pep rallies, bon fires, homecoming and tailgating into their hometown culture without much complaint from the populace.

Perhaps if 13th century broadsword training were implemented in high school extra curricula offerings, Ms. Walker’s perspective of high school might change.

Don’t count on it.
