DEAR EDITOR:

I just wanted to tell Sports Editor Scott Forstner that the article he wrote on Bobby Garcia (Friday, Oct 24) was really cool.

My dad, David Wood, (who is enjoying himself with the guys tonight) also played in the ’70s for Bob. Then my dad went to Sacramento State on a scholarship (football of course) but busted his knee up there. He actually came back and started coaching with Bobby. My sister, my little brother and I were practically raised on Gav’s field. We were there every day after school for the guy’s practices.

We annoyed the heck out of the players! I liked the way Bob said the guys were like an extended family. It was exactly that. Sheesh, one time some guys came over to our house and three players ended up breaking our couch by sitting on it!!! It was hilarious. My sister and I always talk about how much fun we used to have at Gav watching the guys practice. My sister has the funniest memory though: she was on the field the day the earthquake hit in ’89 and she never realized guys cried until then – I guess some of the players were not familiar with earthquakes!

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I liked the article.
