GILROY—Two major ballfields will be the center of attention this weekend as the 30th annual Men’s ‘E’ Garlic Festival Tournament plays a double-elimination event in Gilroy with 18 teams.
The finals will be played at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Christmas Hill Park, the site of the following week’s Gilroy Garlic Festival.
Games begin at 8:00 a.m. both days at Christmas Hill and Las Animas Veterans Parks.
In addition to many Gilroy-based teams, other cities represented are Hollister, Morgan Hill, Watsonville, Santa Cruz, Turlock and Los Banos.
Action begins Saturday at 8 a.m. with Blackout Tint and the Players colliding at Christmas Hill, Central Coast Cabinet and Danger tangling at Las Animas.
Tuesday DD
Garlic City Computers finished the regular season with an 11-0-1 mark with a 15-11 win over the Bash Brothers at Las Animas on July 7.
Angel Gamboa collected three hits to pace the Computers offense. Gabe Jimenez homered for the Bash Brothers (5-6-1).
Team Caley upended the Borrachos 19-4 as Matt Gallindo clubbed four hits. Danny Melendez and Mando Franco each managed a double and single for the Borrachos.
Women
Just 4 Fun snapped an 11-game losing streak with an 8-6 decision over Pops’ Gals July 8 at Las Animas.
Jody Ruiz homered, Pam Rickard lined four hits and Tish Rosado added three hits for the winners. Alicia Reese singled and tripled for Pops’ Gals.
The Dirty Diamonds scored three runs in the bottom of the final inning to trim Unladylike 13-12. Yolanda Lomas used her fourth hit of the game to plate Janet Fuhrman with the winning run. Jaime Hall homered for the Diamonds. Anita Terrazas hit a home run, double and single for the losers.
