“I was wondering, with the addition of Christopher High School and the new homes around there, are there any plans to extend the VTA bus line to service northwest Gilroy, at least to Santa Teresa Boulevard?”

Red Phone: Dear Ride The Bus, There currently aren’t any plans to extend the bus service in the northwest portion of Gilroy, said Jennie Hwang Loft, communications and outreach manager for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
Bus Line 19, which offered service in the northwest quadrant of the city a few years ago, has since been discontinued, she said.
“At the time, public reaction was not supportive of the service,” Hwang Loft said. “It was a joint decision between VTA and the city to remove the service at the time.”
When Santa Teresa Boulevard was widened, VTA wasn’t able to add any stops along the way, she said. Previously the route went up to Sunrise Avenue, but now busses turn around near Mantelli Drive.
“VTA doesn’t have plans to put service in that area again,” she said. “There has been very little public inquiries over the years to do so.”
