Let’s get Tesla Motors down here !!! Have them convert the old Wal-Mart building into their manufacturing plant and lease out the old Cal lottery building as their new of headquarters (they are out growing the one in San Carlos). The two buildings are right next to each other. This will stimulate jobs for the production line and in the offices. Tesla Motors is currently looking for a new home since San Jose was too expensive. We are only 20 minutes south of their original location. The right person can sell this – then the right person can bring a HUGE economy boost to Gilroy.
Red Phone: Dear Why Not Here, Wouldn’t that be something to have a major business come down to Gilroy, especially to the old Wal-Mart building. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will happen.
“As of last year, the news was that Tesla was planning on building a factory on Zanker Road in San Jose,” said Pamela Guerra, who works at Gilroy Economic Development Corporation. “That project has been stalled due to the company not being able to secure financing to support their project. According to the SF Gate, Tesla has applied for more than $350 million in federal loans to build their assembly facility and it appears they are still working with San Jose.”
Jail time hurts taxpayers
“I’d like to make a comment about your news poll about sabotage, how 45 percent said 10 years in jail. Do they not realize that taxpayers have to pay to have them in jail? That means that our tax dollars will go up. Let’s do something better like probation and a lot of community hours. Have them clean up something, doing something for the community to make what they did right. Not spend 10 years in jail where we’d have to support them. This 45 percent, tell them if they want them to go to jail, then they can fit the bill. I don’t want to fit the bill. I want them to make the community better. Everybody makes mistakes. Let them clean it up.
Red Phone: Dear Get Out Of Jail Free, The Dispatch’s Web poll this week asking what should be done to the person or persons who sabotaged South County phone lines received a huge response from the community. More than 1,000 votes have been logged so far. Red Phone is particularly upset about when it hears about a mere mortal who tries to get in the way of the phone gods. Some people lost large sums of money with the phone lines being down.
It’s too bad we don’t allow flogging like some countries do. Twenty four percent of the people responded said that is what should happen. Regardless of what happens, the person at least should never be able to touch another phone ever again.
Incident on Redwood Retreat
“I’ve checked the Gilroy Dispatch, the Morgan Hill Times and the Office of the Sheriff of Santa Clara County’s daily incident log online but can find any mention of an incident that transpired last night on Redwood Retreat Road. About 5:45 p.m. (roughly), a fire truck and three Sheriff’s units with lights and sirens went about a mile beyond the end of the paved road on Redwood Retreat Road in unincorporated Gilroy. The fire truck left shortly thereafter, but the three Sheriff’s units were there for well over two and a half hours. About two hours in a Sheriff’s SUV (Sargeant?) arrived, then left about fifteen minutes later. Five or more ‘private’ vehicles also went to the scene, most seeming to be in a hurry. Do you have any information on what the situation there was? Thanks.
& Red Phone: Dear Wondering, officers and paramedics received a call at 5:20 p.m. from the county. They responded to the 7000 block of Leavesley Retreat Road, where they found a deceased 56-year-old male. Santa Clara County Sherrif’s spokesman Don Morissey said the death “was not suspicious.”
