DEAR EDITOR:

I was reading in the paper the other day about the petitions that were taken away from Alex Williams. I also read that interesting tidbit about how the Gilroy School Board has spent $3,000 and has not found anyone who saw the document.

Maybe they were asking the wrong people, or in the wrong way. I am coming out today to say that yes I have seen it. Today Jan. 18, 2004, I Christopher Rodriquez, former GHS student, did in fact see and sign the petition that has disappeared.

I had Mrs. Lemos as a teacher. She was a good teacher – one of the better ones in my view. But all that does not matter now because she is no longer there. But alas, we continue to do harm to those that stood up for what they believe in. Poor Alex Williams and the many like her that chose to take a stand are hassled and labeled trouble makers.

I have no problem saying I saw the document because they can’t give me detention, suspend me or take away my privilege to go to after-school activities. I can’t stand by any longer and let this girl be called a liar and a trouble maker. I only wish that we can raise more people like Alex Williams who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in.

Christopher Rodriquez, Gilroy
