In response to recent acts of violence and intolerance, a combination of religious organizations will join together for a “Walk for Tolerance” through downtown Morgan Hill Tuesday night, and the public is invited.
The walk is organized by Congregation Emeth, United Methodist Church, Advent Lutheran Church and the South Valley Islamic Community.
Rabbi Debbie Israel of Congregation Emeth said the walk is a response to the recent mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, in which seven worshippers were killed.
The walk is intended as a “statement for tolerance, acceptance, and peaceful co-existence among all people,” Israel said.
“Our walk is a statement against hate and fear, and an acknowledgment that when people suffer anywhere we all suffer,” she added.
The walk will start at 6:30 p.m. at Congregation Emeth, 17835 Monterey St., and continue 0.6 miles to the United Methodist Church, 17175 Monterey St.
The walk will begin with a prayer for “respect and tolerance,” and will end with a candlelight vigil in memory of the victims of the Wisconsin shooting.
