Dear Editor,
We longtime residents of south Santa Clara County and surrounding areas should be standing up strongly for the completion of the Coyote Valley Development as planned and approved.
It started 30 some years ago with the granting of permits to IBM to build their great large campus there, and has been planned out in great detail by hundreds of experts, including environmentalists.
Consider the following:
• The area is NOT prime agricultural land, and never has been.
• It is out of sight of 99.99 percent of us.
• It will provide jobs for many of us and/or our children, both during the construction phase and upon completion.
• For those who live here and commute for hours, the time will be greatly reduced with employment so close to home.
• For those who continue to drive into upper Silicon Valley, the traffic will be reduced north of the new Metcalf Road exit by those getting off Highway 101.
• Air pollution from traffic will improve as many employees will choose to live within the new complex and walk, bike or golf cart to work. (This must be a dream for those now caught in commute traffic for hours each day!)
• The new families who will be living there will be welcomed into our businesses, churches, non-profit organizations and local events and will contribute their knowledge and wealth to our area.
I wonder why some people are fighting against such a GOOD thing, when what we have now is so damned BAD!
