GILROY – Gilroy’s varsity boys and girls water polo teams both fell at home to Robert Louis Stevenson on Wednesday, 18-4 and 11-9, respectively.

The ladies made a valiant attempt at a comeback, with sophomore Chelsea Hill scoring four goals. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, goalie Lauren Van Herk fell ill, which forced Hill back into goal instead of being an attacker.

“Overall, the effort in the second half was great,” said first-year coach Sean La Guardia. “I told the girls, ‘If we play like we did in the second half the rest of the year, we’re not going to have too many problems.’ ”

The boys, led Wednesday by Eddie Malick, drop to 0-3 on the season. The girls are now 1-2.
