Rose L. Naughton died peacefully at her Gilroy home of 48 years on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 7, 1909 in Chicago, Ill., to Anna and Herman Bergman.
She worked at several companies in Chicago before meeting her beloved Vernon on a blind date in 1949 in Key West, Fla., where he was stationed in the Navy.
The couple were married Feb. 23, 1950, in Chicago. After several tours of duty in Georgia and New Jersey, they retired from the Navy and returned to Gilroy in 1956.
Two years later, they moved into their Fifth Street home.
Mrs. Naughton worked as a payroll clerk for A.L. Castle and Certified Egg Farm. Both she and her husband were very active in mixed bowling leagues at Gilroy Bowl. It was during this time that she developed many lifelong friends, especially over dinner or a hand of poker.
She will be missed by everyone.
She is survived by her sister, Esther; brother, Robert; numerous nieces and nephews and their friends and families; and many caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985.
Arrangements were handled by the California Cremation Society.
Her home was the setting of a recent celebration of life on her 95th birthday with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 4141 State St., Santa Barbara, CA 93110.
