Rubber-stamping Problem Really a Problem With the City Manager’s Decisions

Dear Editor,

I’ve read numerous references to the rubber-stamping of the city manager’s decisions by the majority of the Gilroy city councilmen and would like to address this issue.

First of all, I happen to believe the city manager should not have carried out the retirement and rehiring business before informing the council and I do not approve of upper management getting 10 percent more than comparable districts.

Also, I do not intend to vote for any of the present councilmen that plan to run in November. What I want to discuss is why councilmen rubber-stamp city manager recommendations.

Remember, councilmen have full time jobs and do not have the time or, usually, the expertise to manage the city alone. That’s why we have a city manager position in the city charter. They hired this city manager because they believed he would manage the city efficiently and honestly.

If they do not agree with his decisions they would fire him. The issue, therefore, should not be about rubber-stamping, but about the agreement to the city manager’s decisions.

If you want a different type of city manager, then vote for a candidate who will support that type of decision. If you like the decisions made by the present manager most of the time, then stick with these guys!

The Constitution is in Danger if The People Let Administration Break Laws

Dear Editor,

Before I’m of any political affiliation Democrat, Republican and/or Independent, I’m an American first. The Constitution of the United States is in danger and if we the people sit idle and let this administration continue to break the laws of this great land, I fear for the future of our families. In Europe, the government fear the people and in the USA, the people fear the government. We can change that.
