The 12 dancers remaining on FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance?” spent most of Thursday’s live show crying as they had to say good-bye to their friends Ashley Rich and Chris Koehl who were eliminated from the dance competition. Morgan Hill’s claim-to-dancing-fame Ryan Ramirez, 19, and her partner Ricky Jaime were saved.

Ramirez got choked up when host Cat Deely announced she and Jaime were among the bottom six dancers. The couple didn’t receive enough viewer votes – the second time it’s happened since the show aired in June.

Each Thursday, dancers in the bottom group are asked to “dance for their lives” for 20 seconds for the judges to decide who will remain on the popular TV show for another week. Ramirez and Jaime have been deemed favorites by resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy and have now been saved from elimination two times.

Guest judge and former “SYTYCD” dancer Travis Wall said he was shocked and surprised that Ramirez was up for elimination. “America got this wrong,” Wall said.

The next two-hour live performance show is Wednesday at 8 p.m. Viewers can vote by text message, phone call or on Facebook for two hours after the show airs. Catch up with Ramirez’s progress on Twitter @morganhilltimes and online at www.gilroydispatch.com.

WEDNESDAY’S RECAP

– CREAM WILL RISE: The seven remaining couples danced Wednesday on FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance?” and while local Ryan Ramirez and partner Ricky Jaime received compliment after compliment from the four judges – others did face disappointing criticism. Ramirez and Jaime, who found themselves in the bottom once this season, have been elevated to a “favorite” among producer Nigel Lythgoe, resident judge Mary Murphy and several guest judges.

– BOWIE BALLAD: On Wednesday, Ramirez and Jamie performed a Jazz sequence to David Bowie’s “Fashion” – and though the judges called it “hot” and “passionate” it was definitely quirky. The scenario was that Ramirez and Jaime were “disciples of the cult of fashion” and were so into fashion they got hit by cars, then turned into zombies. Quirky. Ramirez stunned in glittery black tights, black shorts and vest with red gloves; she wore her curly blond hair down. “Ryan, holy smokes! Talk about someone deep in character. You went full-tilt zombie … The dance really showed both of you off tonight and I say woohoo!” Murphy said Wednesday. Guest judge and dancer Travis Wall said Ramirez is one of the best girls of season eight.

– NAME DROPPING: Morgan Hill found some love on national television Wednesday night when Ramirez and her mom Paige Day, who lives in town, were shown walking in front of the vacant Granada Theater in downtown. Ramirez was born and raised in Morgan Hill attending Oakwood School, but in the piece she said that there weren’t many dance opportunities here so she took classes in Mountain View and went to high school at Saint Francis to shorten the commute between dance and school. She got her first big break dancing for Mia Michaels, a famous choreographer and has danced on TV episodes of “House” and the finale of “Glee.”
