San Jose – More than a few milestones were passed as the San Jose SaberCats took down the Dallas Desperados 83-71 at HP Pavilion on Friday.
It was the franchise’s 100th win in the Arena Football League. It was head coach Darren Arbet’s 80th career coaching victory. It was the SaberCats’ fifth straight home win and gave San Jose the 3-2 advantage in games with Dallas.
Leading the way for San Jose were James Roe, Rashied Davis and Rodney Wright. Big gains by Davis put the ‘Cats in position to score early in the first quarter, and Wright came through with a touchdown grab at 12:24. Roe, who scored a touchdown in the second quarter and two more in the third, gave the SaberCats a commanding 55-36 lead going into the final quarter.
Injured San Jose player Calvin Schexnayder expressed admiration for the “Big Three” of Roe, Davis and the newly signed Rodney Wright. Patting Wright on the shoulder, Schexnayder said, “I told you this is the man.”
Added Wright: “We played well.”
The SaberCats’ next home game is 7:30pm, April 29 against Nashville at HP Pavilion.
