Dear Editor,
The Salvation Army Gilroy Corps Community Center helped 120 families for Christmas last year. This year we are helping three times that many, a total of 360 families, 60 of which were adopted into the “Adopt a Family” Program by companies and local families.
Last Friday, Dec. 9, we had our telethon with KSBW-TV Channel 8, in which we collected 420 toys. Unfortunately we still need more than 1,000 toys this year. We are requesting assistance from anyone in our community who can help, of which we will be eternally grateful. The children this Christmas season will be able to smile from the joy of presents. Parents will also be grateful for the joy they are able to give to their children. We hope that we can work together in bringing joy to the community.
Your promptness is greatly appreciated in this dire time. We would like people to purchase toys for boys and girls from the ages of 0 to 12, and bring them to: The Salvation Army, 200 W. 5th St. in Gilroy.
People can also make cash or check donations to provide the toys that we need. They can send it through mail (if they do this they have to write “Gilroy” on their check’s memo) or they can bring it to our office.
Thank you and God bless.
Captains Robert and Melissa Viquez, Gilroy
