The County of Santa Clara Animal Care & Control shelter in San Martin for the first time joins 100 other shelters in a nationwide adoption event the first weekend in June.

Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days on June 1 and 2 will allow South County residents to adopt cats and dogs for free, while Maddie’s Fund, a San Francisco based foundation that raises money for shelters around the US, will give between $500 and $2,000 to the San Martin shelter for every animal adopted throughout the weekend.

“The goal of Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days is to give all healthy, senior and treatable shelter dogs and cats a second chance,” a Maddie’s Fund press release reads.

This adoption event honors the memory of the foundation’s namesake, a Miniature Schnauzer named Maddie who died in 1997.

Maddie’s Fund will donate $500 for each standard adoption, $1,000 for a dog or cat older than seven years, or a dog of any age who has been treated for a medical condition, and $2,000 for each adoption involving a dog or cat who is seven years old or older and has also been treated for a medical condition.

The County of Santa Clara Animal Care & Control serves the rural, unincorporated areas of the county and is located at 12370 Murphy Ave. in San Martin.
