George Shirakawa was elected Tuesday as the new County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors president for 2012.

Shirakawa will unveil his 2012 initiatives at his State of the County address Jan. 24 at the County Government Center Board Chambers.

Originally elected to represent district 2 in 2008, he began his term as a county board supervisor in 2009. Last year, he served as board vice president. He is also the chair if the Public Safety and Justice Committee and serves as the vice chair of the Children, Seniors and Families Committee and Disaster Council. He was also a member of the San Jose City Council for district 7.
