The Gilroy school board will tackle a number of issues at this evening’s board meeting, from state and federal test scores to shifting the district calendar to approving support of the Gilroy Library bond.

The board will decide whether to pass a resolution to approve the library bond, a $37 million dollar bond voters will be faced with this November.

A committee that has spent months weighing the pros and cons of moving the district calendar up a few weeks will present their findings and ask for feedback from the board. They are considering two different options: keeping a calendar similar to the current one or amending it so that school begins earlier, high school exams are taken before the winter break and students get out of school earlier for summer. Final adoption of the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 school year calendars is scheduled for Sept. 18.

District staff will also present the recently released federal and state student assessments and updates of facilities projects, current transportation routes and the budget.
