I would like to comment on the article about the firemen. I just
wanted to say the firemen in Gilroy are wonderful. I don’t know why
people are talking about firemen if they do a great job.
Cheers to Gilroy Firefighters

“I would like to comment on the article about the firemen. I just wanted to say the firemen in Gilroy are wonderful. I don’t know why people are talking about firemen if they do a great job. A couple of times they’ve taken care of a family member of mine and they’ve always done a wonderful job, so I just wanted to say hey firemen, you’re doing a great job.”

Red Phone:

Thank you caller for your kind words and support. I’m sure Gilroy firefighters do appreciate it. Red Phone enjoys passing along positive words, it’s a nice break from many Red Phone rants.

School Board Screw Ups

“I’m calling regarding the GUSD school debacle. I would like to know who is the bonehead who thought they should build another elementary school on land that they don’t even own and now we find out that the Filice are not going to build homes for I don’t know how many years. That is the most ridiculous thing that they have done besides making a $12 million error in deciding how much it’s going to cost to build the high school.

I would like to know who is one who did the planning on that mess because as far as I’m concerned, a high school should have been built before another elementary school. Have you ever been to that high school? There’s 2600 kids there and it’s like a mini prison. These people in this district who do the planning should be ashamed of themselves. All they keep doing is screwing things up, I think they need to clean house, kick some butts out the door and get some people who are competent. That means planning, purchasing, all that stuff. This high school should have been built at least three years ago and now we have another elementary school sitting on that land that who knows how many kids are going to go to, hello!”

Red Phone:

Well caller, looking from the outside in can sometimes make things look easier to unravel than they actually are. Debacle is a fitting word to describe the situation, the two parties are having trouble coming to an agreement, but both parties have created the mess, not just the district.

A huge price increase has left the cash-strapped district in a situation, and they could be blamed for poor judgement.

Missing the mark on the cost of construction also created a great snag, but inflation is a killer and the district has made a dedicated effort to correct the error.

Hopefully you made it out to vote for your newly elected GUSD officials who will start work soon. So caller, contact your elected officials, tell them what you think. Hopefully the district and the Filice family will be able to solve this situation and move on toward positive development in the community.
