Ryan Christopher Subia

Ryan Christopher Subia was born on Oct. 7 at Hazel Hawkins in Hollister. He was 9 pounds and 20 3/4 inches long. His mother is Nikki L. Tuft and his father is Brian Subia. Both are from Hollister.

Weddings

Contreras-Mantelli

Esther Contreras, daughter of Ramiro and Aurelia Contreras, and Marc Mantelli, son of Fran Steen, were married on Oct. 16 at Saint Mary Church in Gilroy. The reception was held at the San Juan Oaks Country Club.

The bride works at Headstart Nursery in Gilroy. She graduated with the Gilroy High School class of 1996. Later she graduated from CalPoly in San Luis Obispo with the class of 2001.

The groom is a software engineer for Cisco Systems in Milpitas. He graduated from Westmont High School in Campbell with the class of 1992. He later graduated as an electrical engineer from the University of the Pacific in 1997.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Hawaii and Maui.

Kresky-Sparling

Liz Kresky of Stockton and Everett Sparling of Hollister were married Oct. 9 in Historic Downtown Hollister.

The bride, 27, is the Executive Director of the Hollister Downtown Association. She is the daughter of Bridget and Mike Kresky of Stockton. The bride’s sister, Jenny Kresky, was her Maid of Honor. The bridesmaids were Christine Celfalo, Jennifer Kunz, Carrie Williams, Katie Bogott, Cassy Durham, Alexis Thompson, Kim Bullock and Lara Kapocius. Flower girls were Danielle Fowles and Emily Engsby.

The groom, 29, is a Cowboy for T.O. Cattle Company. He is the son of Angela and Rick Shelton and Pattie and Ed Sparling. The groom’s brother Andrew Shelton, was the Best Man. The groomsmen were Sean Shelton, Tim Fowles, Bryan Smith, Zane Poletti, Christopher Fahy, Jose Rodriguez, Robert Macias and Steve Ostoja. The ring bearer was Bryan Fowles.

The couple met in Chico where they both received their bachelor’s degree and currently reside in Hollister.

Acevedo-Campbell

Maria (Tita) Acevedo and Aaron Campbell will be married July 23 in Redwood City. Acevedo grew up in the town of Aguadilla in Puerto Rico, the oldest of 14 brothers and sisters. She is the divorced mother of three: Jazmin, Edgar and Michael, and has three nephews and one niece.

Campbell spent his childhood in Watsonville and his teen years in Salinas. He is the son of Patrick and Shirlene and has one sister, Cory. The two met at a nightclub called Miami and spent many days getting to know each other via telephone. Their first date was May 14, 2000. They got engaged Dec. 23, 2002.

Acevedo’s attendants will be Julie Zideck , maid of honor; Glorimar Vazquez , matron of honor; bridesmaids Lourdes Valle, Nicole Delorenzo, Gabriela Cruz, Angela Delgado, Cori Campbell, Iris Lopez. Aaron’s attendants will be best man Fernando Ruiz; groomsmen Ryan Greip, Mambo Cruz, Joseph Delorenzo, Donnie Sargent, Otto Acevedo, Michael Cintron, Edgar Valle, ring bearer Joshia Delorenzo.

Arner-Corona

Melanie Brooke Arner and Matthew Richard Corona were married at Terra Cielo in Glen Ellen on July 3.

The bride is a 1995 graduate of Sonoma Valley High School. She has a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English Literature from Sonoma State University. Currently she is employed as an Associate Investment Banker for Piper Jaffray in San Francisco. Melanie is the eldest daughter of Brock and Mary Jane Arner of Sonoma.

The groom is a 1994 graduate of Gilroy High School. He holds a Bacelor of Science in Physical Education from Cal State University Bakersfield and a teaching credential from National University. Currently he is employed as a Physical Education teacher at Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose. Matt is the middle son of Richard and Joanne Corona of Gilroy.

The couple met in an English class in 1995 as student-athletes while attending CSU Bakersfield, where Melanie played volleyball and Matt was a wrestler. They were engaged in November of 2002.

Father John O’Neill, the couple’s friend, who was ordained especially for the event through the Universal Life Church, conducted the ceremony.

The bride wore an empire waist, off-white, silk chiffon gown with full beading by Marisa. Her mother-in-law purchased her veil as a special wedding gift. She wore a strand of pearls given to her mother by her great-grandfather on her sixteenth birthday, and carried a handkerchief that was carried by her maternal great-grandmother, grandmother and mother all on their wedding days. She also carried a bracelet, lent to her by her paternal grandmother especially for the event, in her bouquet.

Melanie was accompanied by her sisters, Sally and Megan, as her maids of honor and her close friend Liz Clausen as bridesmaid. She was escorted down the aisle by both of her parents. The groom’s niece, Madison Nicole Corona, served as flower girl.

Matt and his groomsmen all wore casual attire by Tommy Bahama. Matt carried Melanie’s grandfather’s handkerchief as a token. His brothers, Luke and Richard Corona, acted as best men and his friend and former wrestling coach Rusty Trevino acted as groomsman. Matt’s nephew, Hayden Thomas Corona, served as honorary ring bearer.

Special attendees included Melanie’s grandmother, Beverly Fisher of El Centro, Matt’s grandmother, Fairy Corona, of Lemoore and Matt’s uncle, Jay Parks and his family of Florida.

The reception was also held at Terra Cielo. Special thanks and acknowledgement must be given to Lois Chambers and her daughters Amy and Nicole Grimes for doing beautiful floral arrangements.

Coincidentally, Eli Spillsbury, boyfriend of bride’s sister Sally, caught the bridal garter and proposed to Sally three weeks later. They are planning an October 2006 wedding in Marin County.

The couple, along with their dogs daisy and Tyson, currently make their home in Gilroy.

Benn-Gonzales

Johnny and Donna Gonzales were married at their home in Hollister on Dec. 19.

The bride is the daughter of the late Hazel Worthington and Donald G. Benn.

The groom is the son of Nettie Melara and Jacob Gonzales of Mountain View and Mexico.

Nettie and Angela served as bride’s maids and Suki, Steve and Anthony served as groomsmen.

The bride is a class B passenger driver and the groom is disabled.

The small ceremony and reception hosted eight close friends and relatives.

Hinsley-Crandall

Lauren Elizabeth Hinsley, daughter of Darla Andresen of Morgan Hill, and Harlan David Crandall, son of Denise Dutile from Alaska and Daniel Crandall of Iowa, were married October 22, 2004 in Gilroy, California. The outdoor, fall-themed wedding was officiated by Pastor Adam Miller from Westgate Community Church of San Jose.

The wedding party consisted of Kimberly Cofer, maid of honor, bridesmaids Ximena Gavira, Jennifer Davis, Glorianne Lino, Richelle Chandler and Hannah Gerson (from Denver). The best man was Trevor Todd (from Oregon), and the groomsmen were Matthew Hinsley, Andrew Gerson (from Denver) and Brian Chandler. The flower girl was Chloe Smith (from Denver), and the ringbearer was Nicole Andresen. Guests came from Maine, Iowa, Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and California.

The couple honeymooned in Maui and returned to Denver where they live. The brides gown was a joint effort between mom sewing the design and material (charmeuse with crepe overlay and lace edges) chosen by Lauren. The guests enjoyed the hand-made cup-cake tree, floral adorned pumpkins, twinkling lanterns and pumpkin scented candles.

Zuhr-Rouse

Kathryn Margaret Zuhr and Jeremy Allen Rouse were united in marriage on Aug. 17, 2004, at Christ Presbyterian Church in Madison, Wis..

Parents of the bride are Kenneth and Ann Zuhr of Gilroy, Calif. Parents of the groom are Glenn and Cherie Rouse of Loma Linda, Calif.

Kathryn wore an ivory satin sheath with Alencon beaded lace overlay embellished with silver thread, sequins, and crystal beads. 

The dress ended in a sweep train. Her cathedral length veil was ivory tulle with silver vine embroidery and beading around the edge. She wore her grandmother’s pearls.  Jeremy wore a black tux, Windsor tie, and ivoryherringbone vest. 

The Maid of Honor, Natalie Boult, was a friend from Kathryn’s year studying in London, England. Bridesmaids were Alissa Rouse, Jeremy’s sister and Elizabeth Zuhr, Kathryn’s sister. They all wore burgundy colored camisole tops, a-line ankle length skirts, and jewelry designed by the bride. 

Best Man Will Frei and Groomsmen Walter Martinez and Brian Castillo are longtime friends of the groom. They wore black tuxes with burgundy colored vests.

Both bride and groom are members of the choir at Christ Presbyterian. The music by John Rafoth, organist; Christine Buckstead, soprano soloist; Kati Salmons, flautist, and the Chancel Choir was a very special part of their ceremony.

Kathryn’s processional was “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” sung by the choir and accompanied by the pipe organ. Other music included “Alleluia” from Exultate Jubilate by W.A. Mozart,

“Minuet” from Orfeo ed Euridice by C.W. von Gluck, and “A Clare Benediction” by John Rutter. The service was conducted by Pastor Glen Reichelderfer.

Following a reception with dinner buffet on the church lawn overlooking Lake Mendota, Kathryn changed into her going away dress, a vintage 1950’s cocktail dress of Chantilly chocolate lace with bolero capelet over the shoulders.  Jeremy’s brown suit of the same era completed the look as they left for Monona Terrace, a garden with architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The couple honeymooned at Bailey’s Harbor, Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. They will reside in Madison, Wis, where both Kathryn and Jeremy are pursuing a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
