Mendivils celebrate 60 years

Gilbert and Gloria Mendivil, longtime Gilroy residents, will celebrate 60 years of marriage on June 24.

The couple was married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salinas on June 24, 1951.

HONORS

Adam Groen

Adam Groen, Eagle Scout, Troop 730, has completed the Scout program from Tiger Cub to Eagle Scout. For his Eagle project, he designed and constructed a cement patio with umbrellas and planted trees for Hillview Convalescent Hospital.

Adam plans to attend DeAnza College in the fall. 

Local piano students register for NFSM

Forty five local piano students from the Gilroy music studio of Diana Fennell have registered as candidates for membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians. This group performed in the national piano-playing auditions, held in Morgan Hill, where they earned local, district, state, national and international honors. The American College of Musicians evaluated the students’ performances based upon their presentation of baroque, classic, romantic and modern works. Students performed in the presence of a professional adjudicator chosen by the national organization who examined their repertoire.

Local entrants are Emilie Allaert, Daniel and Kerry Huang, Trey and Ryan Kenyon, and Anthony and Joseph Silva, all of Morgan Hill; Allison and Joshua Bang, Olivia Baxter, Erin and Joel Bonsell, Jasmin Booker, Mykenzie Camino, Kaitlin Carvalho, Sarah Finch, Alex and Ashley Freudig, Lukenathan and Katharina Javier, Jordyn Kafka, Evan Lindner, Adrian, Eduardo and Vistoria Lopez, C. J. and Cassie Mayer, Tasia McConkie, Danielle McKenna, Nolan and Madison Owens, Edward and Isabella Rodriguez, Samantha Sales, Augusta and Sarah Schulte, Taylor Travlos, Kai’Lee, Kiyomi and Noah Vining, Aaron Whitehouse and Amethyst Wilson, all of Gilroy; and Kristina and Robert Moreno, and Malea Pulido, all of Hollister.

Cristina Sanidad

Cristina Sanidad, long-time Morgan Hill resident, graduated May 11 with a master’s degree from Arizona State University. The St. Catherine School, Santa Clara University alumna completed a year of Jesuit Volunteer Corps service through the Arizona Interfaith Alliance for Worker Justice, in Phoenix, Ariz. before entering the graduate school program. She has been named acting director for that same organization since graduation.

Cristina is the daughter of Mary Ann and Dan Sanidad of Morgan Hill.

Casey Joel Schenkelberg

Casey Joel Schenkelberg recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in English and Scandinavian studies. During the course of his studies he earned the Dean’s honor roll, and spent a semester at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Casey is the son of Laura Schenkelberg of Morgan Hill.
