Right-hander pitches into seventh frame, drives in three in 6-5
win over Palma
SALINAS – Senior right-hander John Kirkish battled his way into the seventh inning of Monday’s road game against Palma before giving way to senior southpaw Todd Gimenez – who struck out the final batter to give the Gilroy High baseball team a 6-5 victory.

Kirkish struck out six and walked only one in six-and-two-thirds innings of work to even his record at 3-3 on the season. The senior also went 2-for-4 with three runs-batted-in to help his own cause.

The win lifted Gilroy’s T-CAL record to 4-8 and 7-16 overall with a Thursday road game against last-place North Salinas (2-10 in T-CAL, 3-16 overall) up next at 4 p.m.

Senior Ruben Chavez (1-for-4, double, RBI), junior Ben Hemeon (1-for-4), senior Ron Colmon (1-for-3) and Gimenez (1-for-4, RBI) all had base knocks in the winning effort.
