12-under teams have strong showing in Modesto; Goldsmith wins
$500 scholarship for college of her choice
MODESTO – Molly Goldsmith earned a $500 college scholarship, as she played with the Gilroy Shockers girls fastpitch softball squad May 15-16 in the National Softball Association “Super NIT/Scholarship Tournament”

Two 12-under Shockers teams – the ‘A’ and ‘B’ units – participated in the weekend tournament in Modesto. The ‘A’ team went undefeated to claim the tournament championship, while the ‘B’ squad placed third.

Goldsmith’s scholarship will go to the college of her choice upon her high school graduation.

The ‘A’ team recently qualified for the Western World Series in a previous tournament in Modesto, and now with another title is qualified for the Super World Series in East Peoria, IL on Sept. 3-6.

The ‘B’ team’s third-place finish also qualified that unit for the Western World Series in Seattle, Wash. on July 15-25.

The Gilroy Shockers will compete again Memorial Day Weekend, May 29-30, in a World Series Qualifier Tournament at the Salinas Sports Complex.
