GILROY – Competing in blistering temperatures Saturday in Gilroy, the Shooting Stars of the 8-and-under boys soccer parks and rec program scored a 3-2 victory over the Red Team.

The Shooting Stars were led by two Conor Cumins goals, while Danny Holguin supplied great defense, coach Rick Becker said.

Taking on the Green Team in a match two weeks prior, the Shooting Stars scored a 4-0 victory. Javier Kanoa Margarito had three goals for a hat trick, while Cumins had one goal.

Micheal Salinas and Cumins combined for the shutout by splitting duties as goalie.

“We only had one practice up to this point and played very well,” Becker said. Becker added that Holguin and the Shooting Stars’ Justice Lopez also played very well in the match.
