In the Morgan Hill Police Department’s ongoing undercover “shoulder tap” operation to crack down on adults who might purchase alcohol for those underage, officers arrested a suspect for doing just that last month.

On May 25, police conducted several minor decoy operations throughout the City of Morgan Hill, according to Morgan Hill Police Cpl. Scott Purvis.

The effort resulted in the arrest of one adult on suspicion of furnishing alcohol to a minor, Purvis. In this incident, an undercover minor decoy asked an adult to purchase alcohol for him. The adult obliged and provided the alcohol to the minor.

Police have not released the name of the suspect because the operation is ongoing, Purvis said.

The ongoing undercover project is part of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s “Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap” grant, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The operation in Morgan Hill started earlier this year, and police have arrested nine other adults on suspicion of providing alcohol to minors since February, according to police.

Anyone with information regarding the sale of alcohol to minor can contact Morgan Hill Police at (408) 779-2101, or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867.
