A sixth inning RBI-triple by Westmont’s Casey Morris spoiled an otherwise successful Christopher High varsity softball season opener as the Warriors eked past the Cougars 1-0 on Thursday in Gilroy.
“I thought we played extremely well,” CHS head coach Larry Nabzeska said. “Our defense held up. The girls felt pretty good about it.”
Aly Olvera went the distance in the circle for the Cougars, striking out four and allowing just three hits, two to Morris.
The Cougars, though, managed only three hits of their own against Lwane Mussadi.
“She was hitting all her spots,” Nabzeska said. “She was on.”
Mariah Martinez, Marizza Lucio and Kayla Medrano had the hits for CHS.
