The Cougars’ lone win came in Game 3 of the weekend, a 6-5
extra-inning triumph over the Wildcatz.
The Christopher High softball team went 1-3 at the Charlie Miguel Tournament held at Twin Creeks in Sunnyvale on Friday and Saturday.

Before the Cougars’ week started, manager Larry Nabzeska knew full-well his ball club had a handful of difficult matchups awaiting his team.

That slate began Thursday in a 12-0 loss to crosstown foe Gilroy and continued right on through the weekend tournament.

The Cougars (13-8-1 overall, 5-3 Monterey Bay League) faced Leland, Soquel, Watsonville and Monterey, four teams with a combined win-loss record of 50-25, with Watsonville the only team with a losing mark for the year.

The Cougars’ lone win came in Game 3 of the weekend, a 6-5 extra-inning triumph over the Wildcatz.

Angelica Carillo was credited with the victory in the circle, tossing three innings in relief of starting pitcher Racanna Covarrabias.

Kristen Dennis, Kaslin Ettema, Aly Olvera and Covarrabias each had two hits apiece for CHS, which smacked 11 as a team. Covarrabias (2), Olvera, Ettema, Dennis and Kayla Medrano registered the RBI.

The Cougars fell twice Friday, dropping tilts to Leland and Soquel 5-1 and 9-1, respectively. Following the Watsonville win, the Cougars met Monterey but ended up on the wrong side of a 7-3 decision.
