THERE’s something funny going on here. Four friends have sworn to be bridesmaids in each other’s weddings—no matter what. Forty years later, these Southern gals are still making “the long walk” for each other. Through sickness and health, old/new/borrowed/blue, laughter and love win out. By the playwrights who brought their world premier “Farce of Nature’ to Pintellos’ stage last year, Jones Hope Wooten have struck a chord with anyone who’s ever loved or hated a bridesmaid dress.
With hilarity, love and plenty of deja vu moments, it’s easy to see why “Always a Bridesmaid” is all the rage with theaters across the country. And it’s easy to see why Pintello Comedy Theater has chosen this Southern-fried comedy from their friends Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten for its November production. With Rod Pintello directing six women in twenty-one dresses, the mirth is non-stop. The engaging characters and twisting storyline in this light-hearted romp will tickle your funny bone and make you feel right at home.
The play features Barbara Smith as the romantic bridesmaid, April Ouellette as the tomboy bridesmaid, Maureen Haneyas the judicial bridesmaid, Ruth E. Stein as the sassy bridesmaid, Anne Greenan doing her best to keep each ceremony on time and on track, and Taunya Barrera as the bride who follows them all down the aisle. With this cast, Pintello Comedy Theater now counts over 100 different actors in their troupe.
This play, the 51st production in Pintello Comedy Theater’s thirteen years, runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m., closing on Saturday, November 28.
As always, the Pintello family will be on hand to welcome patrons to the historic Gilroy Grange Hall at 8191 Swanston Drive in Gilroy.
“We are now featuring local wines, as well as coffee and refreshments,” notes producer Marion Pintello.
“Bringing four new comedies to the stage each year at the Grange Hall is “a labor of love,” says the Pintello family, adding that they’re very happy with the central location off Leavesley Road between Monterey and Forest.
“We’re very pleased with the enthusiasm of our audiences. Our patrons have become friends.”
