Keyes contributes seven points, including key free throw in
27-24 victory
GILROY – The Sparks outlasted Above the Rim 27-24 in overtime Wednesday as the second half of the Women’s League adult basketball program opened at Solorsano Gymnasium.

The Sparks, the first-half champion, needed nine points from Melanie Arner to trim the Rim, the defending league champion.

Shanah Keyes, the Sparks coach, contributed seven points, including a tie-breaking free throw in the extra session. Cristi Ledesma anchored the Above the Rim offense with a game-leading 12 points. Above the Rim led 10-8 at the break.

Maxine Chavez and Gail Corzo each scored eight points to lead Williams Dental Lab past R.J. Dyer Real Property Investments. Cherie Somavia added three field goals as Williams prepped for Wednesday’s showdown with the Sparks at 7 p.m. Wendy Filice-Strametz scored eight points for R.J. Dyer.

Alexis Rivas sank four three-point field goals Thursday as Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-Rio Nilo opened the Men’s E League second half with a 48-33 nod over the Titans.

Andres Espinosa scored 16 points, Danny Rodriguez 13 for the winners. Mike Vanni tossed in 12 points for the Titans.

Ed Gamboa struck for 16 points as the Playaz topped the Sand Pit 47-33. Eddie DeLeon and Daniel DeLeon each scored eight Playaz points. Marco Lopez popped in 14 points, Jose Mireles 12 for the Sand Pit.

Brent Torres hit for 19 points Wednesday as Cordevalle opened the Men’s D League second half with a 67-58 decision over Pizza N Stuff. David Warner followed with 16 points, Daniel Crowe 15 for the Duffers. Miguel Gilliard managed 23 points, Donte Fullard 20 for Pizza N Stuff.

Beale Properties defeated Gilroy Young Plants 65-47. Shawn Teacher contributed 13 points and Mike McAvoy (four 3-pointers in an eight minute span of the first half) and Brit Bigelow added 12 points each for Beale Properties. Skyler Thornton scored 12 points for the Gilroy Young Plants, the first-half E champion.

Headstart, the first-half D champion, opened the Men’s C second half with a 38-27 victory over FFC Tuesday at Solorsano Gymnasium. Don Hall hit three 3-pointers in a 13-point showing for the winners. Sergio Montenegro and Tony Purnell each scored seven FFC points.

Mark Cisneros scored 58 points as Gaeta’s Taqueria trimmed Triple Threat 58-57. Gilbert Barry popped in 23 points, Sig Reynisson and Jacob Garcia 11 apiece for the Threat.
