It’s said that every dog has his day; For the dogs of South Valley, that day is today. When we asked you to submit stories about your favorite canine (or two), we didn’t anticipate the overwhelming response we’d receive. Our inbox was flooded with emails from those of you who love your dogs so much that you want to shout it from the rooftops – or at least share the stories of your beloved pups with the community.
An idea to devote a page or two of the newspaper to our dogs turned into devoting the entire Lifestyles section to those lovable, four-legged family members who share – and often complete – our homes. They sleep on our beds (sometimes under the covers), sit beside us and cheer on our favorite sports teams, help calm and heal us when we’re sick and – if necessary – put on brave faces to defend and protect their humans.
A dog’s personality is distinct, and the characteristics that make each of your dogs unique shone through in every story. And though each one is different, there seems to be a single endearing trait that runs through the blood of ALL canines: that of unconditional love.
Whether lean or stout, purchased, adopted or found on the street, it’s abundantly clear that for all the love we give, dogs return it 10-fold. Regardless of our moods, they remain faithful, protective and entertaining, often amusing humans with a silly grin, a fetch of a squeaky toy or a chase of their tail.
This is our special salute to the dogs – past and present – who’ve wagged and barked their way into our homes, each fitting like a piece of a puzzle and completing our families. (Don’t fret cat-lovers: The day to show off your fantastic felines is coming.)
So dog-lovers, we hope you enjoy this special section devoted to the ones who are so incredibly devoted to each of you.
