A local volunteer, an association and a business will
receive awards
Gilroy – Arline Silva, Eigleberry Neighborhood Association and Intero Real Estate will all receive Community Spirit Awards during the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce October Mixer.
Silva has been promoting the arts in Gilroy for more than a decade while still running a successful Allstate Insurance branch.
The mother of two adult children, Silva began volunteering in the community when her children were young.
She has volunteered for a variety of arts-based organizations including, the Gilroy Arts and Cultural Commission, the South Valley Symphony, and she is currently president of the Board of Theater Angels Art League and was a major force behind the fundraising efforts to support multiple arts groups.
The Eigleberry Neighborhood Association was formed more than two years ago. The organization was established to address criminal activity in the Gilroy neighborhood.
Eigleberry Neighborhood Association has managed to secure numerous grants, develop a neighborhood watch group with the Gilroy Police Department and bring hundreds of local families to fundraisers and activities.
In the past two years Intero Real Estate has made many generous donations to the community, including three donations totaling $35,000, to Rebekah’s Children’s Services. The contributions have made it possible for Rebekah’s to continue its drug prevention programs.
In 1999, the Gavilan College board passed a resolution to create the spirit awards in order to promote and recognize service to the communities Gavilan College serves.
A committee reviews nominations and selects the winners for the annual award.
Anyone is free to nominate a locally-based individual, organization or business.
Three sets of awards are given out annually in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and San Benito County.
