Facing strong competition in TCAL opponents, three GHS teams
found themselves on the losing end on a difficult Tuesday of
Mustang sports action.
Despite a big win by senior Meha Munshi in her No. 1 singles match, the Gilroy High girls varsity tennis team was unable to secure enough points in a 5-2 defeat to Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon in Gilroy.
The Mustangs also received a point at No. 3 singles with Jennifer Kwong winning her match in straight sets.
WATER POLO
Both the GHS boys and girls water polo teams dropped tough games to Salinas on Tuesday.
The boys traveled to Salinas to take on the Cowboys at Hartnell College, but were turned away in an 11-5 loss.
Zack Kendrick had two goals for the Mustangs and Michael Shields, Alex Papalais, and Eddie Malick each added a goal apiece.
The girls played a much tighter contest as they hosted Salinas, but a five-goal effort from junior Chelsea Hill wasn’t enough in a 10-7 defeat.
Junior Nicole Nelsen and sophomore Michelle Shields contributed one goal each and goalie Devan Lauber recorded nine saves.
